Hi, I’m Zac.
In 2025, I took a 6.42% home loan rate from a big four bank without shopping around. A friend suggested I compare it. I found 6.00% that matched all my needs. That gap led me to start ratepool.

A little about me
I studied commerce, focusing on banking and financial services, before working as a strata manager. That gave me a close look at the less glamorous side of property ownership: budgets, maintenance and plenty of paperwork. I later completed a master’s in data science, which gave me another way to make sense of complicated information.
I enjoy the practical side of personal finance. I’ll happily spend an evening comparing rates and reading the fine print, though I know most people would rather not. Ratepool puts rates, fees and features in one place so you can compare loans without doing all that digging.
What that rate difference could mean
Take a $500,000 loan with 30 years left. Monthly principal and interest repayments would be about $3,134 at 6.42%, or $2,998 at 6.00%. The lower rate would cut repayments by about $1,636 a year. If both rates stayed the same for 30 years, it would save about $49,000 in interest (that is a lot of holidays).
Keeping the higher repayment of about $3,134 a month at 6.00% would pay off the loan about three years and three months sooner. Total interest would be about $124,000 lower than if the loan stayed at 6.42%.
These are estimates, not my own savings. They assume monthly repayments and rates that never change, with no fees or switching costs. The rate difference got me looking, but I still needed to check the rest of each loan.
Why I started ratepool
Comparing loans takes more than checking two rates. You also need to look at fees, features and the terms that apply to you. Ratepool brings published information into one place and lets you start with your own loan details.
No single loan is best for everyone. I want to give you a clearer place to start than I had. The site is still improving. If you spot an error or something missing, let me know.
Where I stand
I don’t make money from ratepool. I’m not a lender or banker, and I have no affiliation with the lenders listed here. If that changes, I’ll say so clearly.
Before you decide
Ratepool offers general information, not personal financial advice. A listed rate is not a lender quote or a promise of approval. Rates and terms can change. Check the current rate, fees and conditions with the lender, and weigh them against your own circumstances before deciding.
